Optics Manufacturing Supervisor


Our client, a growing, financially stable company is looking for an experienced, hands-on Optics Manufacturing Supervisor to join their team in Rochester, NY as a full-time employee. This role will be 50% hands-on and 50% supervisory. Our client offers a competitive compensation package, including great benefits!



 Supervise optics manufacturing personnel in one or more of the following activities: Fabrication of precision optics, Inspection of precision optics, Assembly and test of optical, opto-mechanical, and opto-electro-mechanical assemblies.

* Assign personnel to work centers and jobs according to their skills and job priority.

* Ensure personnel follow established work instructions, assembly drawing notes, and good workmanship practices.

Ensure personnel uphold company policy in matters including but not limited to work schedule, attire, use of company property, and interpersonal communications.

Ensure correct time reporting.

Review vacation and PST requests and approve consistent with production demands and company policy.

Manage reporting and troubleshooting of non-conforming material.

Monitor performance of tools, fixtures, and test equipment and report all requirements for maintenance or resupply to Manager, Optics Manufacturing.

Conduct regular, formal performance reviews with direct reports.

Assist Optics Manufacturing Manager in performance of his/her duties and act as Manager when Manager is away from the workplace.

* Perform optics manufacturing production tasks in manner described in appropriate fabricator or technician job description for approximately 20 hours each week, or as directed by Manager, Optics Manufacturing.

Required Qualifications :


* Associate's Degree in Optical Technology, Photonics, Electro-Optics, or similar Optics discipline.

* Optical inspection or assembly experience.

* 1+ years of experience as a team leader or supervisor in a technical field.

Strong personal communication skills including written and verbal communication.

Determine group and individual work priorities based on guidance from management.

Handle and clean coated optics without damaging or contaminating optical surface.

Basic math (addition/subtraction/division/multiplication/fractions/decimals/percentages).

* Understand and convert between English and metric units of measure. 

Use basic hand tools: wrenches, spanner wrenches, torque wrenches, screwdrivers.

Use basic metrology instruments: calipers, micrometers, scales, dial indicators, gage blocks.

Proper care and use of sensitive, delicate, tools and instruments.

Use of analytical skills for identifying problem areas and creative ways for resolution.

Organization and neatness of assigned work area.

Basic computer literacy and ability to navigate through use of browsers.

Ability to work standing up for up to 8 hours per work day with physical strength to lift up to 35 lbs without assistance.
